Department of Process Automation (honorary professorship)
Professor Jumar is the director of the Institute for Automation and Communication e.V. (ifak, www.ifak.eu). The ifak, whose legal entity is the association of the same name, was founded in 1991. The institute conducts applied research in the fields of industrial automation, data communication, measurement technology and traffic telematics. The ifak is a partner to industry in about 75 projects annually, ranging from feasibility studies to complex development projects. In keeping with the cross-sectional character of automation and information technology, the clients come from a wide range of sectors beyond electrical engineering.
In accordance with the institute's non-profit status, ifak is particularly involved in pre-competitive collaborative projects, for which research funding is obtained at European, federal and state level as well as from trade associations. The recognition as the first affiliated institute of the Otto von Guericke University Magdeburg corresponds to the scientific claim.
The institute's national and international cooperation network is complemented by active participation in a wide range of expert committees. About 80 % of the approximately 60 full-time employees of the interdisciplinary ifak team are scientists.
